WORKS DEPARTMENT
CORE MANDATE
The Works Department within The Agona West Municipal Assembly is essentially responsible for planning, development, and maintenance of public infrastructure and physical assets in the municipality.
FUNCTIONS
- Supervise the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of public buildings (like schools, markets, offices), roads (especially feeder roads), drains, and other physical infrastructure.
- Providing engineering and technical guidance for all assembly projects—designing, costing, supervising contractors, and ensuring projects meet standards.
- Support the provision and upkeep of water supply systems (like boreholes and small-town water systems) and sanitation facilities, often working with environmental health units.
- Keep records of government/assembly properties and ensure proper maintenance and use of these assets.
- Contributes technical input into municipal development plans, ensuring that infrastructure proposals are feasible and properly designed.
- Ensure that construction and public works comply with national engineering and safety standards.
