WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY

26TH June 2023
In a concerted effort to address the challenges surrounding menstrual hygiene and promote its normalization, Agona West Municipal Assembly commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, 2022. The event, organized under the patronage of Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, Central Regional Minister, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service, aimed to create awareness and initiate positive change regarding menstrual health.
The World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration served as a stepping stone toward a society where menstruation is viewed as a natural and normal aspect of life. Through collaboration, awareness, and tangible support, the event marked a significant stride in breaking taboos, empowering individuals, and fostering positive change regarding menstrual health and well-being.
Under the theme "Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030," the occasion drew distinguished guests, including Mr. Bismark Offei, the Agona West Municipal Director of Education, and notable officers from the Education Office, Madam Bertha Attah, the Agona West Municipal Director of Health, Mrs. Agartha Eyipey, Agona West Municipal Director of Agric and the Officer in charge of the Gender at the Agona West Municipal Assembly Madam Rita Bosompem Amankwaa
The Swedru Town Hall served as the venue, providing an appropriate setting for meaningful discussions and initiatives.
The significance of the event was further heightened by the participation of non-governmental organizations committed to menstrual health advocacy.
Recognizing the importance of overall oral health, the Colgate-Palmolive company generously distributed Colgate toothpaste and brushes to the students. By doing so, they sought to ensure that menstrual hygiene does not impede girls' education, hinder their productivity, or compromise their comfort.
