AWMA MARKS 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY ANNIVERSARY WITH REFLECTION ON DEMOCRACY

Today, March 6, 2024, as Ghana marks its 67th Independence Day anniversary, the Agona West Municipal Assembly commemorated the event amidst colorful celebration at the Agona Swedru Sports Stadium.
The celebration serve as a reminder of the nation’s resilience, progress, and commitment to democratic governance, laying the foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive future.
The event, graced by dignitaries including the Municipal Chief Executive of Agona West, Hon. Evans Adisson Coleman highlighted the nation’s journey towards democratic governance and the values it holds dearly.
In his address, Hon Coleman conveyed warm wishes from the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasizing the significance of the occasion and the theme chosen for this year’s celebration.
Reflecting on the theme, “Our Democracy our Pride”, Hon. Coleman underscored Ghana’s remarkable progress in upholding democratic principles since gaining independence. “Successful elections, peaceful transitions of power, and the strengthening of democratic institutions stand as testament to the nation’s resilience and commitment to democracy.” he stated.
Attention was however, drawn to the challenges that persist, that is, the need to deepen democratic governance, promote inclusivity, and combat corruption as being imperative for Ghana’s continued progress.
Acknowledging the sacrifices of Ghana’s forefathers in securing independence, he urged for unity and a collective effort towards safeguarding and advancing the municipality and the nation’s democracy at large.
Hon. Coleman emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and patriotism, urging parents and guardians to prioritize education and provide guidance to their children.
The celebration featured a parade of students from 20 different Primary, Junior and Senior High Schools within the municipality.
Swedru Technical Institute and Presbytarian B Baic School emerged winners for the best parade for senior high school and basic school categories respectively.
The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to Nananom, the Municipal Commanders of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Ambulance Service and National Fire Service, the Municipal Education Director, the Municipal Chief Imam, the Clergy, and to all involved in organization of the celebration.
