AGONA WEST ORGANIZES CLEAN-UP EXERCISE
25TH JANUARY, 2024
The Agona West Municipal Assembly has taken a proactive approach to prevent flooding in the munipality by organizing a 3-day cleaning and desilting exercise in communities within the Agona West Municipality. As the seasonal rains have commenced, the potential for flooding and loss of lives and properties increases. Therefore, it is crucial for local authorities to take measures to prevent and mitigate the effects of floods.
The first ever clean-up exercise, which took place from the 20th to the 22nd of January 2024, was a success with the collaborative effort of the Assembly members, community members, the Agona West Municipal Enviromental Department team and Zoomlion. The participation and support of these groups were essential to the success of the exercise and prevent any loss of lives and properties when the rains visit.
The Assembly members of Otabilkrom and Oteipro eloctoral areas, in particular, played a vital role in mobilizing their communities to participate in the cleaning and desilting exercise. Their efforts demonstrate not only their commitment to keeping their communities safe from the adverse effects of floods but also their understanding of the importance of community involvement in disaster prevention and response measures.
The Aona West Municipal Enviromental Department team and Zoomlion also deserve commendation for coming on board to support the initiative. Their inclusion provided the necessary expertise, resources and logistical support needed to carry out the exercise effectively.
