AGONA WEST OBSERVES NATIONAL SANITATION DAY

2ND JUNE 2025

National Sanitation Day (NSD) in Ghana is a monthly, voluntary cleanup initiative held on the first Saturday of every month, focused on improving public health, hygiene, and environmental cleanliness through community-led exercises, originally launched in response to a cholera outbreak. The government relaunched the "Clean Up Ghana" agenda in 2025, involving citizens, traditional leaders, and officials in activities like clearing drains, closing shops during cleanup, and promoting a culture of sanitation to reduce disease and enhance national pride.

In line with the above, the Agona West Municipal Assembly has organized its National Sanitation Day spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Gyamfi Odoom. Assisting the MCE were the Swedruman Council, Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, Staff of the Municipal Assembly and the various security agencies. Both residents and market women within the municipality also came to help in cleaning their frontage.

The cleaning was mostly done along the principal streets of Agona Swedru and its environs. Some other towns like agona nyakrom, otsenkorang, bosompa also took part in the national sanitation day simultaneously.
