Agona Nyakrom, Central Region — September 15, 2026: The Agona West Municipal Assembly has held its “Accounting to the People” programme at the Church of Pentecost, Agona Nyakrom, providing a platform for government officials and local authorities to account for development initiatives and engage directly with residents on matters affecting the Municipality.

The programme brought together the Central Regional Minister, Municipal authorities, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, traditional leaders, invited guests and residents for discussions on development and local governance.

The event commenced with the inspection and commissioning of key development projects, including the Police Station at Agona Nyakrom and a six-unit classroom block at Agona Kwaman, equipped with facilities including a staff common room, headmaster’s office and toilet facilities. The projects form part of efforts to improve security and educational infrastructure within the Municipality.

During the main accountability session, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, and the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Hon. Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, briefed participants on development initiatives and the utilisation of public resources in the Municipality.

Among the projects and interventions highlighted were the distribution of 600 dual desks to basic schools, the delivery of an additional 200 metal desks, the drilling of 27 boreholes, and work on health and other community infrastructure projects.

A key feature of the programme was the open forum and discussion session, which gave residents the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns and make suggestions on issues affecting their communities. Concerns raised included unemployment, road conditions, access to basic social amenities, electricity supply and other local development needs.

The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, who addressed the gathering, said the accountability forum was intended to provide opportunities for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and Members of Parliament to account for public resources and engage citizens on development.

The Omanhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, who chaired the programme, commended the initiative for creating an avenue for people from different backgrounds to express their views on local governance and development.

The programme ended with closing remarks and a vote of thanks, bringing together the various stakeholders in a shared engagement on the development priorities and challenges of the Agona West Municipality.
