Agona West, Ghana — July 15, 2026: The Agona West Municipality has officially launched the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), an initiative funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies to empower young people to develop and implement solutions to climate and environmental challenges in their communities.

The official launch was a momentous occasion led by the Hon. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, at the Assembly Conference Hall on July 15, 2026.

The initiative is designed specifically for young people between the ages of 15 and 24, providing them with an opportunity to transform their ideas into practical climate action projects that can make a positive difference in Agona West.

The Youth Climate Action Fund recognizes the important role young people can play in addressing climate change. Through the initiative, eligible youth will be encouraged to identify environmental challenges within their communities and develop innovative, locally driven solutions.

Areas of potential intervention include waste management, plastic pollution, tree planting, environmental education, sustainable agriculture, water conservation, biodiversity protection, renewable energy, and other climate-related activities.

Speaking at the launch, the Municipal Chief Executive highlighted the importance of empowering young people to become active participants in addressing environmental challenges and building a sustainable future for the municipality.

The initiative also provides an avenue for young people to gain practical experience in climate leadership, project development, community engagement, and environmental advocacy.

With funding support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Youth Climate Action Fund is expected to help young people in Agona West move from ideas to action by supporting projects that respond directly to the environmental realities of their communities.

The launch marks an important milestone in strengthening youth participation in climate action within the municipality. It also demonstrates the growing recognition of young people as critical partners in efforts to create a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future.

Young people aged 15 to 24 in Agona West who meet the programme's requirements are encouraged to explore the opportunity and develop innovative ideas that can contribute to solving climate and environmental challenges in their communities.
